(New York, NY) With a combined radio audience of more than 40 million
listeners, southern hip-hop artist David Banner is armed with his biggest
radio hit yet with the sizzling multi-format smash "Play,"
this week's third
biggest airplay gainer on the Rhythm Crossover Chart and the #2 biggest
gainer on the R&B/Urban Chart. The single also climbed to #6 on
Billboard's
Monitor Rap Chart and #12 on Billboard's Hip- Hop/R&B Chart.
As the single explodes nationwide, the SRC/Universal rap star is gearing
up
for his much-anticipated new album Certified, a heart-thumping, mind-bending
odyssey scheduled to hit stores on September 20th. Mainstream video
and TV
outlets have embraced the popular song as well, with the lively video
clip
for "Play" already in strong rotation at MTV2 and BET. The
Jackson,
Mississippi native is joined by a host of superstar talent on Certified,
including Twista, 8-Ball, dead prez, Case, and Jadakiss, among others.
David also crafts fierce production collaborations with a host of superstar
producers such as Mr. Colli Park (DJ Smurf) (who helmed "Play"
and the Ying
Yang Twins "Wait The Whisper Song"), Lil' Jon and Jazze Pha.
Some of hip-hop's most respected magazines have already heaped praise
on the
upcoming Certified, with XXL raving: 'In true David Banner fashion,
after
giving the people what they want, Mississippi's finest is now giving
'em
what they need... (Certified) is one of those jams you just don't want
to
end..." and Maxim commenting: "Forget Linkin Park. You want
real rap-rock?
Mississippi MC-producer extraordinaire David Banner kicks out the hard
rock
jams on his third album..."
Scalding beats and rock-and-street tinged anthems became the rap
specialist's signature since his 2003 gold-certified debut, Mississippi
-
The Album.
It was the genre-altering single from the disc, "Like A Pimp,"
featuring
Lil' Flip, that cemented his rep (one leading hip-hop publication calls
Banner "Crunk's thinking man"). David's much hailed producing
chores on
subsequent side projects for regional wunderkinds like T.I. and the
breakthrough "Rubber Band Man," have bounced David to the
top of the list of
in-demand hip-hop producers.
