Queens’ very own realest son, Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson,
has gravitated heads
as he is set for his film debut, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, scheduled
to be in
theaters Nov. 9. The movie soundtrack, Music From and Inspired by the
Motion
Picture Get Rich or Die Tryin’, will be released Nov. 8.
The movie, a crime and drama category picture, was directed by six-time
Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father,
In
America). The plot circulates around an orphaned street boy, Marcus,
who
dealt with drugs during his adolescent years and later on decided to
leave
that life behind him and pursue a rap career. Once his mother died,
in
desperate need of money, he returned to dealing. An intense Marcus found
that writing his words down released some of the insanity he was empowered
by. A near-death experience made him realize that this drug life needs
to be
over.
Get Rich or Die Tryin’, rated R for strong violence, sexuality,
drug content
and sexuality, depicts parallels that run along 50’s own real
life (born and
raised in a Queens drug dynasty with a mother mysteriously murdered
led him
to dealing).
The soundtrack to the movie, to be released on G Unit/Interscope Records,
was produced by the combined forces of 50, Sha Money XL, Dr. Dre and
Hi-Tek.
The album is magnified by unreleased 50 Cent tracks along with features
from
Mase, Nate Dogg and fresh G Unit members Mobb Deep and M.O.P.
“I created the music for the soundtrack while I was actually
filming the
movie. I had a studio trailer with me and would record every day between
takes,” commented 50 Cent, just 30 years old. “I keep telling
you, I’m the
hardest working man alive.”
The first single off the album, “Window Shopper,” revealed
the struggle of
a poor rapper, similar to the movie character. The second, “Hustler’s
Ambition,” dropped earlier this month, foreshadowed the overall
sense of the
upcoming album release.
Learning from past experience and always striving to do the impossible,
50
Cent heightened his rep as an icon with this film as he proved to the
industy and the fans that he’ll be known as the one who either
“got rich or
died tryin’.”
