The celebrity vibe comes naturally to Grammy-award winning writer and
producer Robin Thicke, as he is the son of soap-opera actress Gloria
Long and actor Alan Thicke. As a young teen, L.A.-born Thicke guest-starred
on several episodes of The Wonder Years and Growing Pains. Soon afterward,
he chose to focus solely on music.
One would think his career took off when he was signed to Interscope Records at the age of 16. Or maybe it was when Pharrell William's took him under his wing at Star Trak Records. No, it was way before then.
Robin Thicke's passion for music was always inside. It was evident when he patiently taught himself to play the piano at the age of 12, and, by age 14, was able to play anything by ear. It was evident when he was found writing songs and other 13-year-olds were out engaging in 13-year-old activities. It was evident when he decided to put the partying aside and focus on his music.
He walks to the music screen with an already standout resume. In addition to writing and producing his debut album, Thicke has written dozens of gold and platinum records for artists, including Christina Aguilera, Usher, Marc Anthony, Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson. Thicke realized his writing talent and voice imposed a double threat in the music industry.
Thicke's talent was noticed and he was taken under the Interscope umbrella, where he wrote and produced his 2002 debut album, Cherry Blue Skies.
About one year ago, Pharrell, realizing Thicke's immense talent, adopted him to his label. They immediately began working on The Evolution of Robin Thicke, to be released February 2006.
Different from his first, Thicke's sophomore album, The Evolution, enlivens the past two years of the artist's life in heart-felt, warm and emotional lyrics. Thicke's stories speak about love and loss, about temptation and redemption and about hope and dreams. With influences ranging over a broad spectrum, from legends Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder to Beck, Jay-Z and DMX, Thicke mixes his tastes and experiences in his newest album, making it unique and imaginative.
Thicke's creativity and versatility can be seen as he covers a laundry list of emotions and music in one disc. "Wanna Love You Girl," an instant hit with radio stations and club DJs, comes off as an explosive and powerful hit.
